Bank of Taiwan Supports Leopard Cat Conservation through Co-Creation of Friendly Environments

2025/03/25

In response to the “Mechanism for Adoption of National Non-public Use Marginal Land for Environmental Protection Purposes” launched by the National Property Administration (NPA) of Ministry of Finance, The Bank of Taiwan (BOT) is supporting the Leopard Cat Association of Taiwan’s (LCAT) environmental protection and ecological conservation efforts which are aimed at safeguarding Leopard Cat habitats. On February 26, BOT Senior Executive Vice President Lee Ming-Hua took part in the “Workshop for Connecting Sponsor Banks with Groups that Adopt National Non-public Use Marginal Land and Environmentally Sustainable Management” (媒合銀行贊助國有非公用邊際土地認養團體暨環境永續經營工作坊) organized by the NPA. During the workshop, Senior Executive Vice President Lee accepted a certificate of appreciation on behalf of BOT that recognized the bank’s direct contributions to environmentally sustainable development and its fulfillment of corporate social responsibility.

BOT focuses on environmental ecological sustainability. The bank took part in the “Agricultural Experience and Habitat Tour” held by the LCAT at Fengshuwo in Miaoli County to help protect the local ecosystem. The adoption site is rich in biodiversity and an important habitat for wildlife including leopard cats, civets, and crab-eating mongooses. As an advocate of friendly agriculture, LCAT has recruited small local farmers to help protect the habitat, enhance its ecological quality, and create a more hospitable environment for rare species. BOT invited families to register for experience-based learning to promote environmental friendliness and conservation concepts. Participants took part in the harvesting and threshing of crops, farm tours, drawing of leopard cat cards, and crafting of traditional palm brooms to cultivate their conservation awareness. The agricultural experience and environmental education made participants appreciate how the land and ecology are closely connected to each other. Protecting habitats will not only help with the survival of the leopard cats as a species but also preserve the balance of low altitude mountain ecosystems.

The BOT understands the crucial role played by financial institutions in the promotion of sustainable development. In the future, the bank will continue to actively promote green financing initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to help businesses achieve sustainable development while also promoting environmental protection and social inclusion. BOT is working with the industry and every part of society to co-create a sustainable ecosphere. BOT will leverage its financial influence to promote low-carbon transition, achieve the balanced development of both the environment and the economy, and create sustainable value for clients, society, and planet Earth.
