The 2024 CPBL All-Star Game was held for the first time at the Taipei Dome indoor baseball stadium on July 20 and 21. The Bank of Taiwan (BOT) has participated in the CPBL All-Star Game for many years, as it is not only one of the sporting highlights of the summer but also a festival dedicated to social engagement. BOT Senior Executive Vice President Tai Shih-Yuan was invited to be the guest of honor on the day and fire the starter pistol to kick off the “Skills Challenge.” To provide the star players with added incentive, gold was donated to the charities of disadvantaged groups for “golden ball” that was knocked out of the park. Vice President Tai also joined the fans in cheering enthusiastically and going to bat for social welfare, making the entire competition all the more heart-warming.
BOT is long-time supporter of domestic sporting competitions and players chasing their dreams. This year, more than a hundred players from the baseball teams of Jhu Lin Elementary School of Yilan County, Taipei Municipal Fulin Elementary School, Taipei Dong Yuan Elementary School, and Taipei Municipal Jieshou Junior High School in northern Taiwan were invited to the game. Baseball players and fans alike were overwhelmed by their first experience of the Taipei Dome and the superb audience amenities. Junior players were also given the opportunity to interact with star players by passing the ball during the Home Run Derby. Vice President Tai even cheered the junior players on as they entered the field. The Skills Challenge allowed star players to pass on their superb playing skills and the junior players demonstrated their passion for baseball on the field as well. Every swing of the bat and every run was filled with their love and commitment for baseball.
BOT engages actively in a variety of philanthropic activities in keeping with its philosophy of “giving back to society.” During the Home Run Derby, the charity golden ball provided star players an opportunity to help disadvantaged groups through their exceptional playing skills. The donation of gold valued at NT$250,000 to the Chung Yi Social Welfare Foundation and the Formosa Cancer Foundation provided charities for disadvantaged groups with the most direct and substantial support.
Corporate social responsibility is important to BOT. Since his appointment, Chairman Lyu has made the enhancement of corporate culture and cultivation of arts, culture, innovation, and sports a top priority. Bankers, artists, and athletes are all dedicated to the pursuit of perfection and sustainability in their respective fields. By building a solid foundation of soft and hard power, corporate sustainability can be realized at every level.
