2024/06/25

On June 11, 2024, Bank of Taiwan hosted the “Welcome to the Era of Carbon Pricing” forum at the Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance, inviting corporate customers from various fields to participate. The forum featured keynote speeches by Research Fellow Daigee Shaw from the Institute of Economics at Academia Sinica and Professor Wan-Yu Liu from Department of Forestry at National Chung Hsing University. The speakers discussed topics including carbon pricing mechanisms, carbon trading, and natural carbon sinks, aiming to provide corporate customers with insights into domestic and global trends in carbon issues and seize opportunities for net-zero transformation.

Bank of Taiwan is committed to assisting its corporate partners in transitioning to low carbon operations by offering diverse financial products and services, including green and renewable energy loans, sustainability-linked loans, green and sustainable time deposits, and sustainable bonds. At this forum, 29 domestic enterprises, with a combined annual revenue exceeding NT$3.14 trillion, representing over 13% of Taiwan’s GDP in 2023, were specially invited to sign the sustainability accord. Together, these enterprises committed to ambitious carbon reduction goals, aiming to collectively reduce carbon emissions by at least 29.35 million metric tons by 2030, and 69.84 million metric tons by 2050. This collaborative effort demonstrated a shared commitment among corporate partners toward achieving net-zero emissions and leveraging the impact of carbon reduction actions.

Looking ahead, Bank of Taiwan will continue to monitor domestic and global trends in sustainable development. By integrating the principles and values of sustainable development into its investment and financing operations, the bank will utilize its financial influence to support sustainable economic activities. Through proactive communication and collaboration with its clients, the bank seeks to work closely with corporate customers to engage in areas that contribute to environmental or social benefits. Together, Bank of Taiwan and its corporate partners aspire to drive the entire industry and society toward a net-zero transformation, gradually realizing the vision of sustainable finance.
