Bank of Taiwan Strives to Achieve Net Zero Through Zero Carbon Credit Cards

2024/04/24

In 2022, Bank of Taiwan’s credit cards passed BSI’s carbon footprint verification and obtained ISO 14067 Verification - Carbon Footprint of Products certification, as to realize environmental sustainability and demonstrate our commitment towards carbon reduction. In December 2022, we were once again awarded the Carbon Footprint Label and Carbon Footprint Reduction Label by the Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan. These labels help enhance brand recognition and encourage customers to engage in eco-consumerism.

In addition to reducing the carbon footprint from credit cards, in March 2024, Bank of Taiwan carried out carbon offsetting via purchased credits to achieve carbon neutrality for credit cards and obtained PAS 2060 Carbon Neutrality Standard & Certification, actively implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies and pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with determination.

In March 2024, Bank of Taiwan completed carbon neutralization of credit cards, a first-time achievement for the institution. Going forward, we will step up our carbon reduction efforts. Other than cutting exhaust emissions by adopting recyclable materials, we encourage cardholders to change to e-statements and set auto debit, as to reduce carbon emissions from product use. The goal is to support the government’s Green Finance Action Plan 3.0 and the Ministry of Environment’s greenhouse gas reduction policy, thereby fulfilling our corporate social responsibility for sustainable finance.
