BOT Supporting Environmental Sustainability and Planting Trees for a Better Future
To support environmental sustainability, BOT takes concrete actions to address climate change and sustainable finance. During the monthly forest tree planting activity promoted by the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, on March 16, 2023, BOT specifically selected the bank clerk training base in Yangmingshan to start a sustainability tree-planting journey. The chair of the bank led senior executives to plant "Fraxinus griffithii", a native tree species in Taiwan with a high carbon sequestration capability.
By engaging in tree-planting to reduce carbon, BOT actively responded to the Net-Zero by 2050 policy of the government and called upon the public to pay attention to environmental issues and jointly guard Taiwan's beautiful environment.
BOT used the park where its bank clerk training base in Yangmingshan is located to plant "Fraxinus griffithii", a native tree species in Taiwan ranked second in terms of carbon sequestration capacity, capable of absorbing approximately 345t CO2 (equivalent to an individual's carbon emissions for approximately 30 years) per hectare. This tree has the advantages of soil conservation, windbreaking, rapid growth, and an elegant appearance, both increasing the aesthetic appearance of the park and reducing carbon.
Additionally, by the end of 2023, BOT managed a total of 84 protected trees in Taipei and Kaohsiung. In addition to regular patrolling of tree habitats and recording the conditions of these habitats, BOT conducts evaluations and maintains trees experiencing poor growth, including trimming, cleaning up decayed branches, and treatment, to protect the precious natural resources of old trees. In 2023, BOT spent more than NT$760,000 in tree management and maintenance expenses.
